Abstract

This study examines the strategies employed by translators in three different translations of the novel “Le Tour Du Monde En Quatre-Vıngts Jours” written by Jules Verne. The aim of our work is to determine the extent to which translators' approaches to the same work have changed and to identify the strategies they use in various situations. Turkish translations are comparatively analyzed, and the translators' approaches from the source text to the target text are identified based on the strategies they employ. In this study, we analyze the text chapters of the work within the framework of the Target-Oriented Translation Theory developed by Gideon Toury, focusing on how translators convey the intended message from the source text to the target text. According to the preliminary norms specified in Toury's theory, it is determined that each of the three translation texts is sometimes faithful to the source text and sometimes close to the target text. Translation 1 is considered a “sufficient translation” due to its faithfulness to the source text, while translation 2 is deemed an “acceptable translatio” due to its conformity to the target text. In translation 3, no specific findings could be made as the chapter numbers and titles do not match the source text. Additions, omissions, changes, interpretations, domestications, imitations, direct translations, and adaptations are identified as strategies used in translations 1 and 2."
